Succeeded in significantly cutting maintenance costs


Reasons for introduction

Our company is a manufacturer of parts for construction machines. We manufacture precision equipment, such as rotary center joints, and parts for construction machines, heavy machines and road-building machines, such as suspension system parts accommodating up to world’s largest classes. We have two factories in Japan and one factory in China.

Before we introduced FINE MAG, we had used bag filters for the secondary filtration for lathes. However, as the filter had to be replaced so frequently, we had been looking for an alternative.
On the other hand, the high-frequency quenching equipment we had introduced into our factories was equipped with a tank for quenching water. As a device to remove scale deposited in the water tank, FINE MAG was adopted as a standard instrument by the manufacturer of the quenching machine. Recognizing that FINE MAG demonstrated us good scale recovery and high squeezing performance for dehydration, we determined that FINE MAG was usable for recovering granular sludge in the secondary filtration for lathe machining.

First of all, we downloaded a brochure of FINE MAG from the website of Sumitomo Heavy Industries Finetech, Ltd. Then, we contacted Sumitomo’s person in charge of FINE MAG, and conferred with him for various matters, and received an offer of lending a demonstration machine of FINE MAG for evaluation.
We used the demonstration machine for evaluation for six months or so, and found that FINE MAG was capable of recovering more sludge and thereby the filter was no longer contaminated. Thus, we made sure of high introduction effect, and consequently decided to introduce FINE MAG with no worry.
Also, that the free lending period of the demonstration machine for evaluation is long is one of the wonderful service elements of Sumitomo Heavy Industries Finetech.

Effects realized after introduction

Let me explain our equipment first. For the secondary filtration to recover sludge from TAKISAWA Lathe TCN3500-L10, we have introduced 4 units of FINE MAG KS Series in 2021, 2 units into our Joetsu Factory and 2 units into our Niigata Factory. Before then, we had used fabric bag filters (of non-Sumitomo make) for the secondary filtration. However, it was a very time-consuming to maintain the filters because we had to replace them once every week.
That is, it took us a lot of trouble to drain water from the removed filters and clean surroundings. Thus, we had a bunch of very real problems in terms of time for discarding and cleaning. With the introduction of FINE MAG, all the problems have been completely cleared. We feel glad that we have introduced FINE MAG.
What is better, running costs, which used to be around 80,000 yen a month for the two factories together, have become nearly zero after the introduction.

Furthermore, it may be an effect we have not anticipated, but the ability to remove floating oil along with the floating sludge is also received well.
When it comes to the drum, it is almost free from contamination.

Maintenance and after-sale service

FINE MAG is maintenance-free. For durability, we have used FINE MAG since 2021 with no problems at all.
Thanks to the past results, FINE MAG is highly evaluated in our company. We have already decided to add FINE MAG to another 2 units of lathes that will need the secondary filtration in the near future.
